Mercerized Cotton Shirts

In the next couple of weeks, we should be adding some mercerized shirts to our line. If you are wondering what that means, the yarns are initially singed to remove any fuzzies and slubs, which makes the yarn stronger. The yarns are then exposed to a caustic bath that swells the yarns making them smoother, stronger and more receptive to the dying process. In a double-mercerized process, the knitted fabric is again subjected to the caustic bath providing the sheen and softness that mercerized fabrics are know for.

Normal pricing for mercerized knit shirts usually starts around $50.00. While we have not established our pricing yet for these products, we anticipate that our price will be around $20 and maybe lower. Cotton Lives

We have talked a lot about moisture management shirts in the summer because they do such a great job pulling moisture away from the body and helping that moisture to dissipate. However, as we approach Fall are those shirts functional in the cooler months. I prefer 100% cotton shirts as the temperatures cool off because they do a better job of keeping you warm – the exact reason you want to use the moisture wicking shirts in the summer months. One quality of the 100% Polyester moisture wicking shirts is they are very light weight, which doesn’t work when it is cool. We are all different so it comes down to personal perferences. In cooler months, mine is cotton.

June so far has been a tough month if you don’t like the heat. In the Southeast, it has been in the 90′s more days than it hasn’t. I guess that is why the moisture wicking and moisture management shirts have been selling so well. We carry a great selection of men’s and ladies’ shirts in this category that will keep you much cooler than either 100% Cotton or traditional polyester blends. They not only keep you cooler when you sweat, but dry quickly once you are out of the heat. If you live anywhere with higher humidity or heat in the summer you need to try one of these styles. Father’s Day

My father has been gone for almost 30 years and as each year passes, there is a new memory to uncover. The things we take for granted while they are here can provide emotions of selfishness when they are gone. Now that my children are a young adults, I see the same thought process in them. No doubt that is true of most families and generations. Still, as a father, you wouldn’t trade anything for joys and sorrows of raising a child. To all the men out there that have been blessed with the opportunity to be fathers, “here’s to you” on the upcoming Father’s Day on June 15th. Whether you think your children appreciate you or not, they do and that appreciation will only grow as they mature.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk

Today my Jayhawks laid an egg against Baylor in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament. The interesting thing to me is that they seem to do everything right except their shots just don’t go down. It was the same way in the game against Texas Tech. I don’t know if that is confidence or they are just worn down. Collins has continued a difficult run by hitting 6 of 20. If it is because they are worn down, maybe a weeks rest will be good for them. If that is not the case, it could be a short NCAA run this year. Still, it is amazing they have done as well as they have. time will tell.
